Donna Ulisse Shares About Her Song, “Gray Rock, Red Clay”
NASHVILLE, Tenn – Award-winning songwriter, Donna Ulisse, releases her latest single, “Gray Rock, Red Clay Land,” from her hit-studded album Livin’ Large on Billy Blue Records. “Gray Rock, Red Clay Land” was co-written by Donna Ulisse and Becky Buller, both former IBMA Songwriters of the Year.
Produced by Doyle Lawson, Livin’ Large is home to Ulisse’s previous singles, “Livin’ Large in a Little Town” and “The End of Crazy.”
“Anyone who ever lived on a mountain farm can certainly relate to this song. ‘Gray Rock, Red Clay Land’ stirred many childhood memories for me because I lived it. Donna and Becky tell the story in melody as if it were a documentary of life in hard times!”
– Doyle Lawson
Regarding the origin of the song, Donna adds:
“When my husband, Rick Stanley and I found this little slice of heaven we call the Wee Farm 6 years ago, we knew we found home. The fields are chocked with limestone slabs that yield the most gorgeous purple ground cover and my sweet daddy and brother helped us move some of the rock to pretty up the place. Line for line, I describe this land with all the pride of the steward that tends it. Becky Buller graciously shared her talent to make this the song you hear now…welcome to the Wee Farm!”
